Different ways of learning with BAES

As you are aware the guidance on Covid 19 is being updated regularly, the rules around self isolating have been updated and can be found on this link:

In summary:
There is no longer a legal requirement for people with COVID-19 to self-isolate, however if you have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people.
Please do let your tutor or centres staff know if you are unable to attend and we can arrange to send course work to you.
The main symptoms of COVID-19 are a recent onset of any of the following:
- a new continuous cough
- a high temperature
- a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
If you have any of these symptoms you should order a PCR test. You are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people while you are waiting for the test result.
If you have COVID-19 you can infect other people from 2 days before your symptoms start, and for up to 10 days after. You can pass on the infection to others, even if you have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. If you have COVID-19 you should stay at home and avoid contact with other people.
Many people will no longer be infectious to others after 5 days. You may choose to take an LFD test from 5 days after your symptoms started (or the day your test was taken if you did not have symptoms) followed by another LFD test the next day. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, the risk that you are still infectious is much lower and you can safely return to your normal routine.

New Covid-19 Prevention measures at BAES centres
The government has issued new guidelines in relation to the COVID–19 Controls, some of which take effect from today.
BAES continue to follow Government, Public Health, BCC and DfE guidelines. Please note the new changes below.
- Face coverings are no longer a requirement within the classroom environment, effective from 20/01/2022
- Face coverings within the BAES facilities are still required, this will remain until the 26/01/2022, at which point this will no longer be required
- Staff or learner tested positive for COVID will also need to continue to self-isolate (please follow NHS guidelines)

All learners are required to take a lateral flow test before coming onto site in January 2022.
Please do not attend if you have tested positive for Covid 19 or if you have any symptoms. Please remember you are required to wear a face covering in communal areas when on site.
Service Update: 29 November 2021
New Covid-19 Prevention measures at BAES centres
Following the new Government guidelines we request that all users of our service follow the following guidance:
- From Monday 29 November, we require all students, staff and visitors to wear face coverings in communal areas, unless they are exempt.
- If you have coronavirus symptoms, have had a positive lateral flow test or a positive PCR test - DO NOT ATTEND THE CENTRE.
Please also let us know as soon as possible by contacting the centre you attend. We will mark you as absent and arrange to send course work to you, so you don't worry about falling behind with your coursework. - You should also follow the latest Government guidance about self-isolating Click here
Many of our courses are already being delivered online and for classes that need to be taught in a classroom we continue to follow strict Government and Birmingham City Council guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection. More information about the precautions we have introduced into our centres can be found below.
On-site Classroom (OS)
All learners attend every lesson in one of our centres. All classes occur at a specific day and time every week
What will the On-site classroom be like: These classes will be made up of small groups of between 6 to 8 learners depending on classroom size. All learners attend every lesson and will follow social distancing rules. More details of how the On-site classroom will work are included in the video below.
Which classes? This method of delivery is for subjects that cannot be taught online, due to the practical nature of the subject, because learners who would be severely disadvantaged or would find it extremely difficult to do the course online.
Courses which will be delivered face-to-face are: -
- Entry 1 and Entry 2 English
- Entry 2 Maths and some Entry 3 Maths
- Pre-Entry and some Entry 1 ESOL
- Beginners and Improvers IT (Entry 2 and Entry 3)
- Art and craft classes except music, photography and drawing and painting

Virtual Classroom (VC)
All learners attend every class online. All classes occur at a specific day and time every week
What will the Virtual Classroom be like: These classes will have a maximum 16 learners per class – all learners attend every class online and it is expected that it will stay like this for the current academic year. More details of how the Virtual Classroom will work are included in the video below.
Which classes? Languages, Maths, all IT at Level 1 and above, Business, Health and Social Care, English Level 2 and above.
Other courses not listed under On-site will start as Virtual Classroom, such as SEND and Family Learning.
Would you prefer to learn in a classroom?
It might be that you don't have the right IT equipment at home, or you just prefer to learn in a classroom.
Whatever the reason that online learning doesn't work for you, let us know so we can try to help. Fill in our Register your interest form below and when we have enough people to run an onsite course in your chosen subject and level we will set one up and let you know about it.
Blended Learning (BL)
All blended learning courses planned for this year will be now be delivered fully online using the Virtual Classroom model until further notice.
