Interior Design - Entry 3 Award (NCFE)

Course aim

The course aims to provide practical introductory experience in a range of interior design techniques and concepts whilst also giving an overview of the skills required to produce a portfolio of evidence in line with NCFE requirements.The course will enable you to develop skills in interior design techniques and provide underpinning knowledge of working with colour.

Yes. NCFE Entry Level Award in Creative Craft using Interior Design.

Course length

This course is for 20 guided learning hours.

Who is this course for?

This course is for individuals who want to be able to gain an introductory knowledge or Entry Level qualification and skills in interior design and, or, who might be thinking about looking for work or self-employment in this field.

Entry requirements

You will not need experience of Interior Design as beginners are welcome on this course. But, as the course involves taking notes and measurements you will need to have basic levels of English and maths. You will have a short initial assessment at the start of the course to ensure that it is suitable for you. You are normally required to have an Entry 3/Level 1 in literacy and numeracy is (free help is available with BAES if required).

What will I learn?

  • You will gain knowledge of primary and secondary colours and how to use them for effect in your own designs.
  • How to take and record accurate measurements
  • Understand the structure of the NCFE award to produce samples of techniques with instructions to build within a portfolio
  • You will learn how to use basic research techniques and findings to help you to formulate ideas for working with colour.
  • You will look at the types of jobs available in the in the Interior Design sector
  • Select and use appropriate materials and equipment to produce a range of effects
  • Gain basic knowledge of the issues surrounding 3 dimensional design
  • Use basic technical language to plan, evaluate and keep records of projects
  • Develop creative ideas to produce finished work

How will I learn?

  • Through tutor presentation & experimentation; your tutor will demonstrate techniques which you will practice and experiment with
  • Through a small amount of background reading and research for the techniques you will be using
  • You will produce 2D visual work using a variety of techniques
  • You will take part in individual and group reviews of finished work
  • By producing a portfolio showing your ideas and achievements

What could this course lead to?

This course will help you to develop basic levels of design and practical skill. It will prepare you for NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft using Interior Design.

Your responsibilities as a learner on this course

So that you have the best chance of successfully passing this qualification, you will need to attend all sessions, be punctual, complete homework as required, and bring the correct tools and resources to each session

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

A ring binder with section dividers. Tutor will advise at enrolment. There will be a cost involved in providing materials for this course.

Important information

The course fees for this qualification do not cover the cost of equipment and materials. You will need to spend approximately £5 on equipment at the beginning of the course, and then £10 on materials as the course progresses.
