To set goals to help you develop the English skills YOU need in everyday life and work
Courses are 2 sessions a week. Courses start in September and run until end of June. You must be available to sit your Functional Skills Reading exam week beginning 27th April 2020 and Writing exam week beginning 29th June 2020.
Adults (19+) who would like to develop their English skills for everyday life and work and gain a qualification.
You will work towards a qualification in Level 2 Functional English. There are two written assessments, one in reading and one in writing. There is also a discussion and a presentation observed and assessed by the tutor. You will be given ample opportunity to practise for the formal exams, as well as the chance to develop discussion and presentation skills and complete course work to further develop your skills. All our English courses embed development of study, IT and job skills to help prepare you for study at higher levels and improve work prospects.
Your reading and writing skills will be assessed before you join the course to make sure that the course is the right level for you. You will already have secure skills at Level 1. You may already have a Level 1 qualification or have some units of Functional English at Level 2.
Please note, continuing on the course past week 5 is dependent upon passing an assessment. This assessment is designed to check you have been placed on a course at the right level.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
A combination of individual work, group work, class discussions, ICT use and individual research sessions. You will have an online Individual Learning Plan which sets targets that are personal to you. Targets will be added throughout the course to develop your English skills and support your journey to achieve long term goals. Your tutor will give you regular feedback on what you are doing well and what you need to do to improve.

You must be available to sit your Functional Skills Reading exam wb 27th April 2020 and Writing exams wb 29th June 2020.
You will be invited to a 1:1 progress review with your tutor at least once every half term. This will take place either half an hour before or after your normal class time.
Paper, pen and ring binder plus, if possible, bring along your own device (smartphone or tablet) to access online dictionaries and apps to support your English learning in class. You will also need to be prepared to do some individual work at home between classes.
PLEASE NOTE: for L1 and L2 Fast Track FS courses (evening courses) you will need to be a confident user of IT with access to IT at home. You will undertake bskb online modules as part of your course of study.
To improve your progress on the course we expect you to attend on time and every session. If you are unable to attend a session, you will be required to email your tutor with the reason for non-attendance and you will be set work to complete at home.
