Sewing & Pattern Drafting Workshop - Beginners & Intermediate
Course aims
This course will cover all of the basic skills you will need to create patterns which will enable you to make clothes which are made to measure

No - this is a non-accredited course.
Course length

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to make their own patterns to create simple garments.
Do I need any prior knowledge, skills or qualifications?
You won’t need experience of pattern drafting for this course. However, because the course involves taking notes and measurements you will need to have basic levels of English and maths. You will have a short initial assessment at the start of the course to ensure that it is suitable for you. You will need some experience of making clothes.
What will I learn?
- How to use tools safely and correctly
- How to take and record body measurements
- How to produce samples
- How to produce a finished pattern block and pattern
What could this course lead to?
This course could lead to short courses in other sewing techniques at Beginners Level.
How will I learn?
- Tutor demonstration and instruction
- Exploring equipment, tools and techniques
- Practice of working to scale
- By producing a small portfolio containing samples, information on techniques you have learned, and patterns that you have made
Your responsibilities as a learner on this course
To ensure that you gain maximum benefit from your course you will need to attend all sessions, be punctual, and bring the correct materials to each session.
Important information
Dot and cross paper for making patterns is available at an average cost of 40p per metre from the centre; alternatively, you can provide your own. It will cost an average of £15.00 for all your start up resources to study this course.
Further information will be provided by your tutor at enrolment.
You will need to provide:
- Your own pattern master ruler
- Scissors for paper and measuring aids
- A folder to store scale samples and written information
For the first week, you will need to bring a folder, pen and a tape measure.
