IT Skills for Work - Level 1 Certificate

Length of course

75 hours - usually 30 weekly sessions of 2.5 hours

Course aims

To develop IT skills which will allow the learner to apply these to a series of real life situations.

Course content

Learners will be able to:

  • Make effective use of I.T.
  • Use Microsoft Word
  • Develop internet search skills
  • Produce emails with attachments

Who is the course for?

Anyone who has a basic level of I.T. skill, not for complete beginners.

Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?

No previous qualification is needed, but you will need to be able to use a computer unaided and have at least English at Entry level.

Will I gain any qualifications?

Yes - Level 1 Certificate for IT Users. Qualification Credit Framework Value: 13 credits at Level 1

How will I learn?

All learners will have access to a computer for individual practice. There will be some small group work and one-to- one tuition as required. Worksheets and hand-outs will be used. We aim to match the teaching to a wide range of individual learning styles and to make your learning enjoyable, challenging and rewarding.

What could this course lead to?

You could progress to a Level 2 qualification in IT or you may choose to do one of our Business Admin or Accounting qualifications. It could help you to gain employment in an IT office environment or you could use your skills to help set up your own business.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

You will need a pen, notepad, and a folder to store hand-outs and completed exercises. You will also need to supply a memory stick. Access to a computer or any other IT device outside the classroom will be useful, but is not essential.

Your commitment as a learner

To achieve success on the course you will need to attend regularly. If you need to miss a class, please let us know in advance.

You will need to ensure that you allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set. You will be expected to complete all assessments and complete the full course.
