Course aims

To be able to create and use basic spreadsheets.

Course length

9 hours - usually 3 weekly sessions of 3 hours.

Who is this course for?

The course is suitable for those who want to begin using spreadsheets.

Will I gain any qualifications?

No, but you will receive a BAES certificate of attendance.

Do I need any prior knowledge, skills or qualifications?

You need to have used IT before (perhaps for word processing or surfing the internet) but you don’t need any spreadsheet experience. The course is not suitable for complete beginners to IT.

Course content

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Create a new spreadsheet
  • Use basic formulae eg add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Create a graph to display the contents of your spreadsheet
  • Format a spreadsheet to make it look attractive
  • Begin using more complicated formulae eg count, max, min, average.

What could this course lead to?

You could consider doing a further IT qualification, depending on your skill level, such as Level 1 or 2 IT Skills or ECDL.

How will I learn?

You will be taught in a group and through individual practice, with assistance from your tutor.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

You will need a pen, notepad, and a folder to store hand-outs and completed exercises.
