Course aims
The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors. It's made up of the 15 minimum standards that should be covered if you are 'new to care' and should form part of a robust induction programme.
By the end of course learners will have covered:

- Work in a person centred way

- Privacy and dignity
- Fluids and nutrition
- Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
- Safeguarding adults
- Safeguarding children
- Basic life support
- Health and safety
- Handling information
- Infection prevention and control
Who is the course for?
You’ll be expected to complete the Care Certificate if you’re:
- new to care
- employed as an adult social care worker
- providing direct care in a residential or nursing home, a hospice or are a home care worker.
Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?
A good level of written English.
Will I gain any qualifications?
You will gain a BAES Care Certificate.
How will I learn?
- You’ll be assessed on what you know and what you do to show you understand and can carry out the standards in your role.
- You are expected to take part in group and paired activities and discussions.
What could this course lead to?
You could use the learning from the Care Certificate towards some existing qualifications and apprenticeships in the future and you’ll be able to take your certificate with you if you move to another role in health or social care. This will help avoid the need to repeat learning if you move to other health and social care roles, though periodic refreshers on some content may be required. Make sure you keep your certificate safe and any other documentation you think would be useful.
Progression advice can be provided by a Learning Support Manager. This can be arranged by the course tutor.

Other information
Course Completion: Completion is expected within the duration of the course. Learners whose completion is delayed may be subject to an additional assessment fee.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): DBS checks are carried out on everyone who works with, or trains to work with, children, young people and vulnerable adults. BAES will carry out these checks before you start a work placement that is part of a social care course, along with a right to work check.
For enrolment on social care courses and for your DBS check you must provide original, approved documents that give evidence of your identity and address.
To get a full DBS check you must have been resident in this country for at least five years. If you have not been resident for at least 5 years, you must also produce a Statement of Good Conduct (written in English) from your previous country BEFORE you can be enrolled onto a social care course.
If you have a criminal record which may bar you from working with children or vulnerable adults, please discuss this with a member of staff before enrolling, as all previous convictions and cautions will be disclosed and this could prevent you from qualifying.
