BAES offer a variety of courses from Entry Level to GCSE courses at various times including evening and Saturday. There are face-to-face courses as well as courses that run in virtual classrooms. ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

Is your current level of English holding you back?

Do you need to develop your English skills so that you can talk to your neighbours, go shopping, help your children with their homework or visit a doctor? 

If English is not your first language and you are a permanent resident in the UK, then one of our ESOL courses is just what you’re looking for!

Our ESOL courses will help you to develop confidence with English, support you with key language skills to help you to get a job and help you to manage your everyday life with confidence. We also provide extra learning opportunities such as Conversation Clubs, IT skills, Wellbeing activities and preparation for vocational courses in Health and Social Care.

We have a range of ESOL courses at centres across the city where you can practise speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and learn the language you will need to interact with your local community and to access training and job opportunities. Most courses are classroom based, though we are also able to offer a mix of classroom and online courses at some centres.

You will study English in real-life situations and classes will include individual work, group work, pair work, role plays, discussions and presentations. You will work towards Skills for Life qualifications with support from our experienced teaching staff.

We offer courses from Pre-entry level, for learners who are new up to ESOL – Level 2 for learners who want to develop their English for further study or employment. We also offer fast track courses for learners who want to improve their English at a fast pace.

Booking an Initial Assessment

It is important we find out your current level of skills so we can start you off at the right level. The first thing we ask is that you do an Initial Assessment, we will try to set this up for you to do it online, but we are now running face-to-face assessments in some of one centres. After we have your assessment results, you will then be offered a place on a course that is at the right level and, as far as possible, at a centre and time that is convenient for you.
