Course aim
This course will cover basic cooking and serving techniques as well as how to work hygienically and safely in a kitchen.

Yes. NCFE Entry Level Award in Creative Craft – Cookery Skills.
Course length
This course lasts for 20 guided learning hours.

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to learn about the basic techniques and equipment required to be able to produce basic and nutritious dishes, and who may wish to go on to study at higher levels.
Entry requirements
You will not need to have any experience of cooking. The course also involves taking notes, weighing and measuring, so you will need to have basic levels of English and maths. You will have a short initial assessment at the start of the course to ensure that it is suitable for you.
What will I learn?

- How to cook using different methods

- About employment opportunities in the catering industry
How will I learn?
- Your tutor will demonstrate techniques which you will practice and experiment with
- You will prepare and cook basic meals
- You will produce a portfolio showing pictures of your meals and dishes
What could this course lead to?
It could lead to further courses in cookery techniques at Beginners Level, or a qualification in cookery at Level 1. It may also help you to get an interview for a job in catering.
Your responsibilities as a learner on this course
To ensure that you gain maximum benefit from your course you will need to attend all sessions, be punctual, and bring the correct materials or ingredients to each session.
Important information
- The course fees for this qualification do not cover the cost of equipment and materials such as protective clothing.
- You will need to spend between £5.00 - £7.00 on ingredients for the sessions when you are cooking
- For the first session you will need pen, writing pad and a leaver-arch folder
