Jewellery Making - Level 1 Award in Creative Craft

Course aims

To enable learners to develop craft skills to design and make a range of basic jewellery

To provide learners with the underpinning knowledge of the creative craft process

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will:

  • Develop craft skills and knowledge to experiment with different wires, beads, colours and basic techniques
  • Use a range of cutting tools, equipment, materials and resources in line with health and safety regulations
  • Be able to select primary and secondary colours for different effects
  • Research and develop ideas to plan, prepare and produce a range of your own designs
  • Produce and present the final project to a good standard
  • Be aware of employment opportunities in the jewellery trade
  • Produce a folder of evidence

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for individuals interested in creating jewellery and wish to gain a qualification.

Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?

Some basic practical craft skills are needed including using scissors. Some practical maths skills are needed including a basic level of measurement. Entry Level 3 literacy or above (free help is available within BAES if required). At the start of this course, your tutor will carry out an initial assessment to check that the level is suitable for you.

Will I gain any qualifications?

NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts using Jewellery.

  • Tutor demonstration and presentation
  • Independent practical activities including practical tasks and experimentation
  • Individual support and feedback from your tutor
  • Individual and group research and evaluation to develop ideas and knowledge
  • By producing a folder of evidence

What could this course lead to?

This course provides learners with the basic knowledge and skills to progress to intermediate level study or to NCFE Level 2 qualifications in this, or other art and craft disciplines.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

This will be discussed at Induction. There will be a cost involved in providing materials for this course.

Other information

To provide evidence for your portfolio, you will be asked to take photos of your finished work. A digital camera is available at the centre for you to use or you may prefer to use your own camera.
