Course aims

This 30 hour course is designed to introduce people to some basic mentoring skills and their application to work roles and everyday life contexts.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course candidates should be able to:

  • Gain an insight into the role and practice of mentorship.
  • Be clear about mentor/mentee relationship.
  • Ensure they follow good practice.
  • Be aware of the specific skills and understanding they will require in order to mentor.
  • Review on their own learning and work performance.

Who is the course for?

The course is the first step into a career as a mentor.

Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?

You will require English at a minimum of level 1. You will need to prove English skills are adequate before being offered a place. We will also offer you the opportunity to improve your English and maths skills.

Will I gain any qualifications?

You will gain a level 1 award in mentoring from NCFE.

How will I learn?

You are expected to take part in group and paired activities and discussions. You will build a portfolio of evidence and independent study and research is expected.

Progression advice

Learners can apply for a Level 2 Award in Mentoring, however, progression is not guaranteed.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

Pen, paper, An A4 Folder and dividers for portfolio building.

Course Completion

Completion is expected within the academic year. Learners whose completion is delayed may be subject to an additional assessment fee.
